Kids and the home office: how to make it work

Web Worker Daily has a great article on how to make a home office work while dealing with the kinder.

As someone who works from home, I can tell you that it’s crazymaking quite a challenge to get work done AND be available for for your kids at (roughly) the same time; so this particular suggestion really resonated with me:

It may be your office, but if the kids are going to wander in, you’d better have something handy for them to do. Keep a toybox in one corner and let them stash some of their toys there, and encourage them to play quietly while you work (assuming that you’re not one of those people who needs absolute silence to stay productive).

I’ve done this – right next to my desk is a comfy couch and three full bookshelves stuffed silly with kids’ books. It’s a great way for them to be with me while I’m working (and quiet, btw). How about you – have any tips for mixing kids and home office successfully? Thoughts in the comments. — Wendy Boswell
